Many supporters were amazed when Bernard Dong Bortey was seen in the midst of ex players and legends of Asante Kotoko during their emergency with the league trophy at Baba Yara sports stadium on last Sunday. It left a lot to be discussed when Bortey went ahead to hoist the flag of Asante Kotoko after the MC for the ceremony announced his unexpected presence at the venue.
Dong Bortey who was a pivotal part of Hearts team in the early 2000s has faced numerous castigation from disappointed phobia supporters after pictures of their former player gracing Asante Kotoko success at their expense got escalated across social media.
Amidst the backlash, defiant Bortey endorsed his actions in an exclusive interview with Happy FM sports. “It’s a big honour, I’ve even honoured Hearts of Oak! It’s a big honour to us all. It’s their own life if they get angry for what I did, I’ve finished working with them; you hate me at your own peril so far as I’ve joined an event of Kotoko as a Hearts legend” He exclaimed.
In other interviews, Bortey has repeatedly expressed his disgust as to how legends and ex footballers of Hearts of Oak have been neglected as compared to the nicest recognition he witnessed for his fellow former players of Asante Kotoko at Baba Yara sports stadium on just passed Sunday.
