After many strives, Asante Kotoko finally lifted their 26th league trophy after an emphatic victory over Elmina Sharks at Baba Yara sports stadium on Sunday. The porcupine warriors were crowned champions in an exhilaration manner infront of thousands of their gratified supporters at their favorite home grounds yesterday. It was a waited moment to receive the trophy after Kotoko had already won the league in 1 all draw against Ashgold on June 2 at Len Clay stadium, Obuasi.
Supporters were eager to see their club lifting the trophy for the first in 8 years. First goal from Imoro Ibrahim’s stupendous free kick on the 26th minutes aroused the excitement of the home supporters. It turned to be a balanced encounter after Kotoko took the early lead, Elmina Sharks showed glimpses of threats to get the equalizer after many probes in the Kotoko’s half. Thanks to the resilience of Kotoko’s defence until Referee Daniel Laryea blew his whistle to send the game into recess.
Kotoko came back from the break pestering for more goals with a lot of pressure on the relegated Sharks. Dr Ogum made tactical changes and it paid off for two quick goals from Georges Mfegue, the Cameroonian attacker adhered rightly to the plans and delivered to ensure a delightful for the fabulous family.
