The reigning Ghanaian league champions are closing on a deal with another Cameroonian attacker to supplement the attacking prowess as they gears up for the nearing Africa campaign and the desire to dominate the domestic contests. The pursuit for Alain Akono, the prolific and burly Cameroonian attacker is expected to be finalized in the coming days after both parties have almost agreed everything.
Alain Akono, who just ended a year spell with CS Chabab Mohammedia in the Moroccan Botola Pro league has also had good stints with Azam FC in Tanzania where he was the leading marksman and contributed greatly to the third place achievement of the Tanzanian titans before he left the club after a sudden fallout.
The 26-year old workaholic goal poacher with so much exposure around the gulf region has also had an experience in the Malaysian super league with Sembilan FC and Negiri FC respectively. He was part of the Indomitable Lions CHAN team in 2019 after an impressive run with Fortuna du Mfuo but unable to make the final cut for the tournament after a suspected hamstring injury plagued him. Cameroon hosted the tournament that year and come to a halt on fourth position.
Asante Kotoko are keenly to complete the deal with Akono as a possible replacement for his countryman, Franck Etouga Mbella who’s likely to join Udinese Calcio in the Italian serie A for an outrageous price.
